More about the Master Code
The Master Code is a registered industry code of practice under the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) that provides practical guidance on meeting Chain of Responsibility duties across every role in the transport supply chain.

Compliance is one step.

Why is it Being Reviewed?
As part of a statutory review requirement, the current version (last updated in 2018) is due for a significant update. This isn't a minor refresh – we're looking at a major restructure and expansion.

Understanding the new Chain of Responsibility Master Code: What’s changing and how to prepare
The proposed changes to the Chain of Responsibility code of practice, known as the Master Code, have been released for consultation. It’s more than a minor update – the proposed Code challenges businesses to reconsider their role in the Chain of Responsibility, and for many, it means recognising duties and obligations they may not have considered before.
Aaron Louws, Supply Chain Technical Manager at CoRsafe, breaks down what’s changing in the Master Code, why it matters, and what you can start doing now to prepare.
What's Different This Time:
Role agnostic approach
The Code has moved from looking at the roles and responsibilities of isolated duty holders, to an activity-based exploration of the controls available to manage and ensure those activities are executed safely.
Increased guidance
Coming in at 123 pages, the proposed Code is significantly more detailed and comprehensive compared to the current version, and explores controls for risks that historically were considered outside the scope of HVNL.
Bigger picture thinking
Instead of "focusing on who’s doing what," the proposed Code places more emphasis on “what is being done” (and how to do it safely).
If any of these describe you or your business, this webinar is for you.
In simple terms, if you’re a party in the chain, you have a responsibility to do everything you can to manage the risks and hazards that arise from anything you or your business does relating to the use of a heavy vehicle on a road.
That’s your primary duty.
You have a duty...
do you know what that really means?
You’re also responsible for any overlapping or outsourced activities with other parties in the chain. You might not be able to control their activities, but you need to understand how another party operates before you begin working with them. That’s why visibility across your supply chain is critical.
We can help you with that.

But We Can Help You Understand What They Mean for You
Supply chain safety starts with visibility
It can be confusing to understand the complex nature of the Chain of Responsibility (CoR) and how it affects you. But failing to meet your primary duty obligations (learn more about that here) can lead to hefty fines, reputational damage, jail time, and/or other legal consequences.
That's why it's important to identify any blind spots.
